According to sources, Amazon.com Inc is preparing to launch a standalone music streaming subscription service. It will be offered at $9.99 per month, in line with major rivals, and it will offer a competitive catalog of songs.
The new service will be directly compete with Apple Music and Spotify. Amazon’s Alexa-powered virtual assistant Echo plays music from Prime Music, Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, and more. Amazon has alraedy launched its Prime Music service for the Prime subscribers last year but it has only just 1 million songs, which is less compared to huge catalog compared to the likes of Apple Music and Spotify.
The new music offering also is intended to increase the appeal of the Amazon Echo, its home speaker, which searches the Internet and orders products from the retailer with voice commands. Apple Music was launched last year in one of the highest profile signs that listeners wanted subscription service in over 100 countries worldwide, including India. Spotify already boasts more than 30 million songs, but Spotify has not launched in India yet.
